I have laid before the Lords Emissioners of His Majesty's Treasury Mr. Lucas' letter (3129/1907) of the 1st instant, enclosing by direction of the Secretary of State for the Colonies copy of a letter from the Crown Agents, relative to the valuation of the securities held against the note issues of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corpora- tion and of the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China.

In reply I am to state that My Lords note that the deficiency in the amount of security required amounts to

s d £32,304 :19:10 in the case of the Hong Kong and Shanghai

8 d Bank, and £5,459:16:5 in the case of the Chartered Bank, and that They concur in the proposal of the Crown Agents for the Colonies to call upon the Banks to deposit additional securities to cover these deficiencies.
